What we do

Wall panelling and mouldings

Made and fitted on site, then filled, caulked and sprayed — so it reads as part of the house rather than something stuck to the wall.

Panelling is the job we get asked for most, and the one we most often get called in to put right. The tell is always the same: hairline gaps opening at the mitres after the first winter, a run of panels that gets narrower as it crosses the wall, and a paint finish that shows every joint under a low lamp.

Almost all of that comes from the same place — panelling fixed straight onto a wall that was never flat. Old walls bow, plaster blows, and skirtings were fitted to a floor that has since moved. We set out on the wall first and pack or re-batten where it needs it, so the frame is true before a single moulding goes on.

Setting out matters as much as the carpentry. Panel widths are worked out from the room — around the fireplace, the door, the window reveal — rather than starting in one corner and letting the last panel land wherever it falls. That is the difference between panelling that looks original and panelling that looks applied.

How we do it

What the job actually involves

  1. Set out on the wall

Panel widths worked out from the room’s real dimensions, around the features that are already there.

  2. Get a true ground

Battening and packing where the wall bows, so the frame is flat before anything decorative is fixed.

  3. Build and fit on site

Cut, fitted and fixed in place, scribed to floors and ceilings that are rarely level.

  4. Fill, caulk and sand

Every joint filled and rubbed down. This is the slow part, and it is the part that shows.

  5. Spray or brush finish

Finished in your chosen colour, on a surface that has been properly prepared.
